SUSTAINABILITY

Since 2015 at Dalle Piane we have adopted a series of good practices to make our production and more generally the entire life cycle of our products more sustainable.

LOCAL PRODUCTION

Our products are strictly 100% Made in Italy. We select cashmere from local companies able to guarantee not only quality but also values in terms of sustainability. Local production allows us to better supervise the quality of the product we are offering and to establish relationships of trust with our suppliers.

Since the birth of our e-commerce, we have decided not to produce more than what is really necessary, through a just-in-time production system focused on reducing overproduction as much as possible.

This allows us not only to better manage our resources avoiding the accumulation of product stocks, but also to prevent the waste of raw material and to generate less production waste. So we get an advantage for everyone: by minimising the risk of unsold products we are able to offer an affordable and constant price all year round to our customers, who will have the certainty and pleasure of wearing garments that have just been made.

A SERVICE TO OFFSET CARBON EMISSIONS

We are aware that, through our actions, we are contributing to CO2 air pollution. For every package that is shipped, in fact, we emit carbon into the air. For this reason, we have activated a service that, through the payment of a fee, allows us to offset the amount of CO2 we emit through the delivery. With this financial contribution, we are going to finance the Jarí Para Forest Conservation project for the protection and conservation of about 496,988 hectares of the Amazon forest in Brazil.

Forests, in fact, absorb 30% of CO2 emissions every year but are gradually losing their absorption capacity due to drought and rising temperatures.

Carbon offsets are undoubtedly not the definitive solution to climate change, but at the moment they are a valid method to reduce the amount of carbon emitted into the air overall. This is our contribution.

THE RECYCLED COLLECTION

From the desire to start a sustainable production comes Dalle Piane Recycled, the collection in regenerated cashmere by Dalle Piane whose processing is inspired by the historic art of recycling fabrics from the textile district of Prato, in Tuscany.

A production model based on the recycling of old garments and production waste destined to be spun to create a new fabric ("carded wool"), thus allowing textile manufacturers to optimise processes and save on energy, water and chemical costs.

""The whole history of Italy and Europe ends in Prato: all in Prato, in rags" - Curzio Malaparte, "Maledetti Toscani" (1956).

Over time, this process has also been applied to other materials. Thus we have regenerated cashmere yarns with a high degree of environmental sustainability, obtained from the recycling of production waste and used cashmere garments that would otherwise have been thrown away.

So, in line with the continuous propensity to face new
challenges, at Dalle Piane we decided to embrace the principles of the modern circular economy and take this path towards the regenerated.

CASHMERE REGENERATION

The cashmere regeneration process is post-consumer, starting with the recovery and selection of used garments, and then moving on to fraying, a process that reduces waste into small pieces, from which a web of fibre is obtained through carding. This web is then twisted to be reinforced, until it regenerates into a new yarn. This yarn is then used to make new garments ready to be put back on the market. Through this process of processing with the same weight, regenerated cashmere can ensure a saving of 82% of electricity, 92% of water and a 97% cut in carbon dioxide emissions compared to virgin cashmere.

You can make a difference and reduce the environmental
impact by choosing garments made of ecological fibres (therefore from natural sources, such as cashmere), deciding to invest in what you wear and reducing the frequency of washing.
