World Environment Day: Our Move to Recycled Cashmere

During these COVID-19 times, we still do not forget to celebrate World Environment Day, established by the United Nations General Assembly on December 15, 1972. Recent editions have focused more and more on the environment.

For some time now, the world of fashion has been working on new production models built around reuse, in keeping with the principles of the circular economy and circular fashion. At Dalle Piane Cashmere, we found our solution in recycled cashmere, which lets us make quality garments from fiber that already exists, using less energy, water and chemical input than virgin yarn.

How is recycled cashmere made?

Recycled cashmere is made by processing production scraps and old cashmere garments in a completely new way, until you have cones of recycled yarn that are then knitted into new garments.

This process draws on the art of recycling fabrics practiced in the textile district of Prato, Tuscany, a city renowned worldwide for its fervent textile activity. It lets us produce a quality yarn using less energy, water and chemical input, and it puts old clothes back into circulation. Because the fiber is shorter than virgin cashmere, it needs a little more care in washing to stay beautiful for a long time.

Other ways we cut waste

What else can we do to waste less? As a company, we buy raw materials from local producers and only produce the quantities we need, calculated from sales estimates based on monthly orders received. That way we avoid making products that would go unsold, we manage resources better and we cut waste.

By buying our recycled cashmere products, customers can count on affordable, steady prices all year round. The way we produce means customers get quality products that have just been made, not stock that has been sitting in a warehouse for months.
